LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky baseball team expanded on an already splendid 2008 recruiting class by signing Kevin Carby, a highly sought-after junior-college recruit from Texas, to the 2008 recruiting class.

Carby, who has twice been drafted – in the 18th round by the LA Dodgers in 2005 and in the 25th round by the New York Yankees in 2006, is entering his second season as the second baseman for the Texarkana College Bulldogs. Carby finished the 2005 season with a .379 batting average, four home runs, 15 stolen bases, and 42 RBI in 169 at bats. As a result, Carby earned first-team All-Conference honors and was also selected to participate in the Texas-New Mexico Junior College Athletic Association All-Star game this past October in Waco, Texas. Carby will join his junior college teammate Chris McClendon on the UK campus next season.

Carby proved to be an effective hitter in high school as well, earning All-Conference, All-Metro, and Tulsa World honors while suiting up for Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla.

?Kevin has been drafted twice already, which is a testament to his athleticism and tools,? Kentucky head coach John Cohen said. ?He has the ability to steal bases and hit the ball out of the ballpark. We expect Kevin to be a very good player for us immediately.?
