Kenny Brooks Has Hired Will Sims as the Director of Scouting and Program Analytics

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Will Sims, former Virginia Tech women’s basketball director of player personnel, has been hired as the University of Kentucky women’s basketball director of scouting and program analytics, it was announced by head coach Kenny Brooks on Tuesday.

“I am very excited and grateful to join Coach Brooks and Big Blue Nation,” Sims said. “Kentucky basketball is synonymous with success, and I am eager to get to work to help continue that legacy.”

Sims arrives in Lexington after two seasons as the director of player personnel at Virginia Tech (2022-23, 2023-24). There, he assisted the coaching staff with recruit database management, coordinated recruiting travel logistics, managed the video library of potential prospects and coordinated unofficial and official visit itineraries. He also assisted with film exchange, scouting reports and scheduled practice players.

In just two seasons with the Hokies, he aided in a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference championships and two NCAA Tournament berths, including helping the program reach the Final Four in 2023.

Prior to his time in Blacksburg, Sims spent one season as the video coordinator at Virginia Commonwealth University (2021-22). In that role, he oversaw the filming of games and practices, film exchange, breakdown and assisted with scouting operations.

Before his two stops in the state of Virginia, Sims, a Fort Wayne, Indiana, native, spent half a decade at Indiana.

Sims first served as a manager and practice player for three seasons (2017-19), before joining the program as a graduate assistant for the next two seasons (2019-20, 2020-21). While in Bloomington, Sims was part of a program that won the Women’s National Invitational Tournament in 2018 and reached two NCAA Tournaments, including the Elite Eight in 2021.

He also spent time as a coaching intern at DistinXion, an AAU program in Bloomington, for two years.

Sims earned a degree in sports marketing and management from Indiana in 2019.
